Strategic location

As a strategic location in the Northwest of Portugal, between Porto and Galicia (Spain), Vila Nova de Famalicão is the gateway of Minho for those coming from the South, and the last point of reference of Minho for those coming from the North of mainland Portugal and Galicia. Its strategic location has motivated, since olden times, the passage and settlement of people and civilisations that have left marks of their riches and cultures to date.

Famalicão is surrounded to the North by Braga, to the East by Guimarães, to the South by Santo Tirso and Trofa, to the west by Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim and to the northwest by Barcelos. Famalicão is currently served by a modern transport network, with access to one of the most important motorway junctions in the country - A3 (Porto - Vigo) and A7 (Guimarães - Póvoa de Varzim), as well as a railway service with direct connections to Braga, Guimarães, Porto, Vigo, Coimbra, Lisbon and the Algarve.

The city is just 20 minutes away from Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport and Leixões Sea Port, and about an hour from Galicia and Vigo Airport.
