Until January 15th, visitors to the municipal gallery of contemporary art will be able to get to know the work of the Portuguese Jorge Martins and his most recent exhibition - "Lusco Fusco".
A selection of drawings that "arouses our curiosity to investigate resolutions, unveil meanings and hope that this space of lusco fusco will be of intense stimulus for contemplation", reveals the curator of the cultural space, António Gonçalves.
"Jorge Martins has this ability to scrutinize the drawing in order to challenge us on exploring the forms, the possibilities for understanding and deepening sensitivities", he adds.
It should be noted that the exhibition opened on September 12th, with the presence of the author, for whom drawing has been a vigorous practice of work and thought throughout its already extensive journey.
The uniqueness of the painter's work is also one of the aspects highlighted by the curator of the Ala da Frente in the presentation text of the new exhibition. "There is a constant exploration of the possibilities that simple materials such as graphite, coal, red chalk and Chinese ink, to reveal very unique forms and universes through them ".
Born in 1940, in Lisbon, Jorge Martins attended Architecture and Painting courses at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He exhibits regularly since 1958. His first solo exhibition dates from 1960. In 1961, he left for Paris where he lived and worked until 1991. This stay was interrupted between 1975 and 1976, when he settled in New York. He returned definitively to Portugal in 1991, where he lives and works.
The exhibition is free to enter and can be visited from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 17:30 p.m. and on weekends from 14:30 p.m. to 17:30 p.m.. The Ala da Frente gallery is located at the Palacete Barão da Trovisqueira, in Rua Adriano Pinto Basto.
